We don’t know who you are, and we’ve gone out of our way to keep it that way.

This site is plain HTML on a static host. There is no analytics, no tracking pixel, no advertising network, and no account to create. This policy is short because there is genuinely very little to disclose — and everything below describes how the site is actually built, which you can verify from the page source or your browser’s network tab.

The short version

We collect no personal data about visitors. The troubleshooter runs entirely inside your browser and sends your answers nowhere. Nothing is stored on your device except a single theme preference. Some hardware links are affiliate links, which set cookies on the retailer’s site after you click — never on ours.

What we collect about visitors

Nothing. No analytics or measurement service of any kind runs on this site — no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no Meta or advertising pixels, no session recording, no heatmaps. We do not build profiles, we do not fingerprint browsers, and we have no way to tell one visitor from another or to know that you visited at all.

There are no third-party scripts or embeds. Every page loads only files served from assistantswitch.com, so reading a page here doesn’t quietly announce your visit to anyone else — including Google, whose product changes this site documents.

Cookies and local storage

This site sets no cookies. It uses one item of browser local storage:

That value never leaves your device and contains no identifier — it is literally the word light or dark.

The troubleshooter

The troubleshooter asks what broke and walks you to a fix. Your answers never leave your browser. It is a JavaScript decision tree that runs on your device; every question and every possible result is already in the page you downloaded. There is no server to send answers to — this is a static site with no backend, no database, and no form endpoint on our side.

Nothing is saved between visits, and no email is ever required to see a result. If you share a link to a specific result, the part after the # is read by your own browser to jump to that step; it is not transmitted to us, and we have no record that you used the tool at all.

Affiliate links

The escape hatches page links to hardware — smart home hubs, voice devices, a Zigbee dongle. Those are affiliate links, marked as such on the page. If you buy after clicking one, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We are a participant in retailer affiliate programs including the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.

What matters for your privacy is the handoff: clicking an affiliate link takes you to the retailer, and the retailer sets its own cookies to attribute the sale. That is their tracking, on their site, under their privacy policy — but it is a real consequence of clicking, and you deserve to know it beforehand. We receive only anonymous, aggregate commission reports: how many items sold and the fee earned. Retailers never tell us who you are, and we cannot connect a purchase to a visitor.

We run no display advertising anywhere on this site. Recommendations follow the sourced research behind the guide, not commission rates — which is why “stay with Gemini and buy nothing” is listed first on that page.

Server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like every web server on earth, their infrastructure processes the technical information needed to deliver a page to you — IP address, browser user-agent, the file requested — and uses it for security and abuse prevention. We do not have access to visitor-level logs, do not export or analyze them, and do not combine them with anything else. Cloudflare’s handling is described in the Cloudflare privacy policy.

Children

This site is written for adults sorting out their phones and smart homes. It is not directed at children, and we knowingly collect no information from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

If you are in the UK, EEA, California, or anywhere with similar law, you have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to its processing. On this site those rights have nothing to attach to: we hold no personal data about you at all. There is no account, no mailing list, and no stored record of your visit. If you email us, we hold that email until the conversation is finished; ask and we’ll delete it.

Since we run no advertising trackers and share nothing with advertisers, there is no sale or sharing of personal information to opt out of under the CCPA/CPRA.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially — if we ever add analytics, advertising, or any new way of collecting data — we’ll update this page and change the effective date at the top before it takes effect. We’d rather announce a change loudly than let one happen quietly.
